Second Life's little terror...

Okay, so maybe not a little terror... but what a pain in the backside to create a decent to scale avatar shape. The reason why I created this is to re-live (in a virtual way) days gone by with few worries aside from homework and the like...

This avatar shape is the result of around 7 months of tweaking the avatar settings in the editor. The shape is for sale on [link], and [link], also available in world at Valkyrie Labs (view Millie Thompson's profile), should you wish to join my growing army of Millie Clones. :p -- Hair and clothing is not included, nor are the eye and skin textures, just the shape is available.

Second Life avatar: Millie Thompson
Avatar age: 12 years (based on pediatric medical data)
Millie Thompson is NOT available for Second Life adoption
Avatar appearance is subject to change depending on mood, area, simulator rule restrictions, and Ooooh! SHINY!

Second Life can take a huge chunk of system resources. If you run at full graphics settings then it will run like an ice age. Turning down the graphics options, such as particle count, draw distance, changing the detail sliders, and allowing for more bandwith for the network settings then it should run good enough. I have the graphics memory setting in my gaming rig set to 64mb within Second Life, this speeds up texture loading and puts less processor demand on the video card.

Additionally since its a laptop you may have an unsupported video card or outdated video drivers, I had played with a IBM Thinkpad with an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator video setup, it ran, but would only do so for about 5 minutes before it would become so sluggish the system would need to be restarted.

Also connecting via wireless networking will put a drain on performance. My DELL Inspiron 8000 would run Second Life decently via a LAN connection to the router, but would suffer from lag via a wireless 802.11b and 802.11g wireless lan card.
