Behold... The FOcaseal

Sun Oct 15, 2006, 6:01 AM
A recent foray into testing the class system in Phantasy Star Universe (Xbox 360 Premiere Beta) and $500 meseta later... I've done something that should work in theory but only with cyborgs.

Androids: Completely synthetic mechanical beings.

Cyborgs: Mechanical beings with biological brains and organ systems.

Phantasy Star 3 and 4 (SEGA Genesis) contained both cyborgs and androids. Both could use some form of technique (magic).

Phantasy Star Online contained androids. Androids have no biological components so therefore can not use techniques. They had to rely on weapons for primary offense, shields and armor for defense. And required healing items for repair.

Phantasy Star Universe contains casts. AKA androids. Forking over $500 meseta to an NPC in the Guardian's Colony allows ANY race to change jobs. Hunter, Ranger, and Force.

Viewing what your character can do in the status menus I've noticed that the force class statistics would ALWAYS show for casts.

Battle Angel being a RAcaseal from Phantasy Star Universe on the Dreamcast was reborn as a little cast (caseal) in Phantasy Star Universe. Starting out in the ranger job class (ranged weapons). But after paying to change job classes (total cost was around 2500 meseta for new weapons and techniques), Battle Angel can now use techniques.

So my headache is this...

I think I've found a bug with the class coding for Phantasy Star Universe. *IF* only PSU is set right after Phantasy Star 4 - The end of the Millenium.

If PSU is set after the storyline in Phantasy Star Online... then its either a bug or some new thing with casts...

Perhaps I nitpick too much...

  • Listening to: day after tomorrow - Never Land
  • Reading: These... strange... words...
  • Watching: Blinking cursor
  • Playing: PSU Xbox 360 demo - Xenosaga Episode III
  • Drinking: Coffee - Starbucks Komodo Dragon blend.

You nitpick too much...
But I wouldn't stay FOcaseal if I were you, speaking from experience :D

The spice must flow!
Bah, one can change at the drop of a hat and a couple of meseta later. Once I get to the point where I can go "Eh, enough fun for now." I'll swap back to ranger or hunter.

So I'm guessing you're playing PC version? I'm thinking Imma pick up PS2 since

a) I don't own a 360 or plan on getting one soon

b) I don't WANT to hear an entire lobby talking in my headphones

c) I DO want to play with my PC bretheren =3

and finally
d) My PC is made of oldness and can't even run XP >.>
Yes, I have the PC version and have an Xbox 360 controller as well. Works well for the game and I've setup the PC's controller to mimic the functionality of the 360 version of PSU. Some of the buttons are non functional for some reason, I expect a patch for the PC sometime so it would be possible to map the two trigger buttons and directional pad buttons to game functions.

The only reason I picked up the Xbox 360 was to play Kameo and beat a friend at DOA 4. Other than that its been an expensive space heater.

Yay for PC goodness! Any thoughts of reviving good ol' MC?
Yeah, still working on getting the domain switched over to a new host account.
