Upgrade...

Sun Dec 21, 2008, 6:08 PM
  • Listening to: Gunslinger Girl Il Teatrino VC / The Delgados
  • Reading: Gunslinger Girl manga, Clockwork Girl
  • Watching: Gunslinger Girl
  • Playing: Gunslinger Girl Vol. III, Saints Row 2, Fable 2
  • Eating: I need desk munchies...
  • Drinking: Coffee!!!
Attempting to spend more than an hour or two on a scene and having DAZ Studio hang, pause, lock, and jerk its way through simple I figured its time for an upgrade.

And get back into high end gaming with all those yummy games out there and perhaps... actually enjoy all the graphical eye candy game developers want their audiences to enjoy.

And perhaps have a more pleasant time on the Luskwood platform without freeze frame like motion with more than 10 avatars on the platform...

Current system: SARA-CRUZ
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ ~ 2.0ghz
MSI K8T Neo-V mainboard
2gb PNY RAM
BFG GeForce 7600GS 512mb
SoundBlaster X-Fi
500 watt Rosewill PSU
500gb Western Digital IDE HD
160gb Maxtor SATA HD
Lite-On DVD drive
Lite-On DVD Burner with Lightscribe
Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit

The internal parts will be moved to an older but still capable and still visually looking case.

The new parts will go into my current Raidmax Smilodon case. And I'll be re-naming my primary network to Social Welfare Agency.
Laptop will be re-named Rico.
Dekstop will be re-named Triela and be converted temporarily to Windows XP Pro.

Triela will have:
AMD Phenom 9850 Black Edition 2.5ghz Socket AM2+ Quad Core Processor
ASRock K10N780SLIX3 WiFi mainboard with nForce 780a northbridge
4gb Mushkin DDR2 1066 RAM
MSI GeForce GTX 260 896mb video card (Will do 3way SLI later)
SoundBlaster X-Fi card from SARA-CRUZ
750 watt Rosewill PSU
640gb Western Digital 7200RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s HD
Lite-On IDE DVD-ROM drive
Lite-On IDE DVD+-R with Lightscribe
Windows Vista Ultimate from SARA-CRUZ

My only question is should I stay with a 32 bit OS or go 64 bit? I can go either or with the version of Vista I have. Though from what I hear 64 bit OSes aren't overly friendly to gaming...

The problem with 32 bit operating systems is that you can only address up to a max of 4 gig of RAM with them. And at least XP reserved part of that, maybe about half a gig, so you would only be able to use 3.5 gigs max. Not sure what Vista does in that regard.
