Saved an Amazon Kindle 2 from being drop kicked across the room. They seem to suffer from a frozen "Battery Empty" message when they've not been charged in a while.

So if anyone is interested in a fix for the stuck screen here's what to do:

1.) Let the Kindle 2 charge for a few hours.
2.) UNPLUG the charging cable. <- Kindle 2 will not restart with cable plugged in.
3.) Slide the wake switch to the right and HOLD it there for 20 seconds.
4.) Once 20 seconds has passed RELEASE switch and wait a full minute.

Your Kindle 2 will restart and operate as normal. Remember step 2 is critical, the thing WILL NOT reset itself if the cable is plugged in, nor will the Battery Empty message magically vanish in the morning if left to charge overnight.

Now according to various sources this process will not destroy data on your Kindle 2.

No brain cells were completely damaged in figuring this out.
